My Priorities
Business
Ireland needs more experienced business people in government. With over 30 years experience and success in business both at home and abroad, I know what is needed to start, finance and develop business. I know how to create jobs. I understand what our entrepreneurs and our economy needs. As your senator, I will be a voice for business in the Seanad. I will help create an economic environment for enterprise to start and flourish. As your senator, I will work to;
• Create a positive investment environment
• Improve infrastructure to attract international investment
• Restructure tax policy to encourage entrepreneurs
University Funding
As Trinity Graduates, we speak with pride about the 425 years of college history, its graduates and our achievements. Trinity still ranks among the world’s leading universities. However, the role of Trinity and other Irish universities as world leaders is threatened by drastic cuts in state funding.
For almost a decade, I have been working closely with Trinity’s leadership and have seen first-hand the enormous challenges that Irish universities face. As your senator, I want to secure the future of Ireland’s universities. To do this I will work to;
• Improve university quality and international ranking
• Restructure university funding
• Increase the autonomy of university management
Seanad Reform
Two years ago the Irish people voted to retain the Seanad however, we need to make this institution more relevant and effective. As your senator, I will work to;
• Increase representation of experienced leaders
• Enable all Irish citizens to elect senators
• Empower the Seanad
Repeal the 8th

About Me
I left Trinity College in 1985 with a business degree, life-long friends and a world of possibilities. Following a masters degree in finance (UCD), I spent a decade in finance in London and New York. With this experience I identified opportunities in the global telecoms industry and became an entrepreneur. I established successful businesses in the US, Ireland and Central Europe. In 1998 I founded Powerscourt Investments and I began working with, and investing in, other Irish entrepreneurs. I helped many of them become successful businesses, employing hundreds of people. For almost a decade I have worked in the following roles with Trinity’s leadership helping to secure the university’s future:
• Chairman of the board of Trinity Business School
• Board member of Trinity Foundation
• Member of the Provost’s Council
• Professor corporate finance MBA programme
As a Trinity graduate with 30 years business experience, a successful entrepreneurial career and almost a decade of commitment to the future of Trinity, I would be honoured to represent you at national level as your independent Trinity senator;
• I will be a voice for business in government
• I will help strengthen Ireland’s universities
• I will bring my experience, skill and energy to the Seanad
