Sean Melly warns of economic consequences of government void

Press release 8.3.16

Sean Melly, entrepreneur and Seanad candidate, has warned TD’s to quickly decide who is in charge of running the country. The consequences of delaying active management of the Irish economy could have significant adverse consequences for Ireland at a crucial time in our economic recovery, he said.

“It is difficult to believe that it could be weeks or even months before we have a new government in Ireland,” said Mr. Melly.  “I’m already hearing of international investment opportunities that are on hold or deferred until the government is formed.”

“International economic waters are choppy enough at the moment, with Brexit looming on the horizon, we can’t afford not to have a government with a clear mandate”, he said, “Politicians need to focus their minds on the business of managing government and the economy.”

“What they should be doing right now is creating a stronger investment environment for Direct Foreign Investors, and improving infrastructure to attract that investment.”, he said.  “This will be one of my main priorities if I am elected to the Seanad. I will bring my business expertise, skill and energy to politics. I will be a voice for business in the Oireachtas.”

“Right now business people in Ireland are simply getting on with running their businesses but any prolonged lack of leadership will create uncertainty ”, he said.”

Mr. Melly is running as a Seanad candidate on the Trinity Panel.  He believes there should be more business people in government and he wants to be a voice for business in the Seanad. He has over 30 years experience as a businessman and almost 20 years as an entrepreneur setting up global telecoms businesses and later investing and working with Irish entrepreneurs to develop companies that have generated hundreds of jobs.
